Power Required for the
Direct-Voice Seance

The term "power" is used regularly to describe the energy the spirits need to be able to speak through the direct-voice mediums. They often say at the end of the seance that "the power is waning" or "I'm being told the power is going." The power is apparently derived from the medium and sitters, not the spirit realm. In other words, physical realm power is necessary for those in spirit to speak.

Reverand Drayton Thomas wrote that his communicators told him that the reason they were able to communicate through the medium he used, Mrs. Leonard, was because of a "power" that extended a few feet around her body. This power faded away towards the end of the sitting so that communication was no longer possible. (http://www.survivalafterdeath.org/researchers/thomas.htm)
